Everyday good news

An armful!

So we have a couple announcements. One is cute and lovable. The other is, well, one of those pieces of good news you may consider T.M.I. (too much information).

David watching the masons work in our back yard.

The first is that David has begun walking. He toddles a bit like Frankenstein, arms extended and knees stiff. It's adorable.

Barber Dave and his littlest customer.

Cold, rainy days are perfect for baking bread.

The other piece of "t.m.i. good news" is something we Cooks appreciate because the road to its achievement has been long and fraught with emotion. Tonight Teresa pooped in the potty. This is groundbreaking. We obviously made a huge deal of it, blasting Handel's Hallelujah Chorus, cheering, giving her cookies and jellybeans. We trust those of our readers with children will also appreciate our joy. To those who don't: sorry for the bit of t.m.i. Such posts will be seldom, I promise.

Halloween preview

The happy queen.

We visited Unique thrift shop and hit the jackpot in the princess dress department this year.

The grumpy princess.

With a little help from the Dollar Store, we had the full ensemble.

Refusing naps catches up with one, even a princess.

Has anyone else been sleepy with the arrival of crisp, Autumn weather? We've all found ourselves sleeping in, including David Jr.

Happy Fall!

New/not yet born potatoes

After months of anxious waiting for (read: forgetting entirely about) our modest potato crop, we dug them up today with some excitement. Anyone else's hopes might have been dashed upon pulling up our first specimen.

Yep, that's a quarter.

But us city-folk were just thrilled to be digging up something edible from the garden. Subsequent digs yielded what might be termed new potatoes, though they, too, are probably a hair shy of that designation.

An impressive first try I'd say! Maybe we'll water them next year.

THE cake

"Victory!! I dedicate this is bite to all those babies out there who've never had chocolate cake."

"Those healthy banana cookies? Don't even try it Mom. Not after this."

Things actually started off pretty tame... nice family portrait, David looking stoic below.

"C'mon, Frankie. What's the big deal? Chocolate shmocolate. Gimme one of those banana cookies."

"Hmm something different about this piece of food."

And the rest is history. Another beautiful chocolate cake- thank you Lola!

Our special man/boy/baby

Three belated birthdays to recognize here: Jackson turned 11 on Aug. 6, Pop-pop turned even wiser on Aug. 10 and sweet baby David turned one on August 11! The males stick together in this family for survival purposes.

We love you all.

David celebrated last night by bathing in spaghetti. A foretaste of his official party this weekend, no doubt.

The flash really makes that sauce "pop".
